Artefact Handling At ADMAT's Maritime Archaeological Centre.

Page 1.

With all ADMAT's classes, artefact handling is part of the training given. In addition the Underwater Survey Diver Course (a PADI SDC unique to ADMAT) is an integral part of our training. Before the Team goes on an actual wreck site they spend time in the Lab measuring. We have placed some of the granite blocks from The Tile Wreck in one of the conservation tanks. They are placed exactly as they were found on the port amidships of the wreck. The Team are asked to measure the blocks into the tank when there is no water in it. This is simple. Then the tank is flooded and they have to repeat the task with full diving kit. The fun is when they compare the two scale drawings they have made.......numerous times they have to go back and re do as it is not as simple as it looks!
