David Concannon         A Short Biography

David Concannon has joined ADMAT as ADMAT USA's Attorney at Law. David is a lifelong climber and diver whose love of exploration merged with his career as an attorney in 1996, when he became a member of the prestigious Explorers Club and its general counsel.  Since that time, he has provided legal and operational advice to several organizations and expeditions, including expeditions to Mt. Everest to test medical equipment for use on the Space Shuttle; to the R.M.S. Titanic in 2000, 2001 and 2003; to the heart of the Bermuda Triangle, where the world's deepest wooden shipwreck was discovered in 2001; to the Bismarck in 2002; and to the X-PRIZE Foundation, which awarded a $10 million cash prize for the first privately-funded space flights in 2004 and is currently developing new prizes to encourage the private development of new technologies.  David is also the principal attorney in the Law Offices of David G. Concannon, LLC, which advises small to medium-sized corporations and non-profit organizations on corporate matters and commercial litigation.

David studied international law in Africa and Europe.  He has successfully represented explorers in litigation to restore public and scientific access to the R.M.S. Titanic for exploration and photography, and to avoid or establish liability for incidents involving exploration.  He has chartered ships, submersibles and remotely operated vehicles for use on expeditions, as well as negotiated artefact exhibition agreements, corporate sponsorship arrangements, television, film and literary deals, and intellectual property licensing agreements.  David also regularly advises clients on establishing corporate structures and fulfilling rules applicable to non-profit organizations.

David has also participated in several expeditions.  He has: climbed mountains in the United States, Africa and Europe; dived in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans, as well as the Caribbean and Mediterranean seas. David has made several deep submersible dives to depths ranging from 1,000 to 16,000 feet, including three dives to the R.M.S. Titanic at a depth of 12,460 feet.  He is one of the few people in history to ever dive to a depth in excess of three miles, and he has climbed to altitudes in excess of 17,000 feet.

David is a Fellow and member of the Board of Directors of The Explorers Club, a Member and Director of the Sea-Space Symposium, and an Associate Member of the Deep Submersible Pilots Association.

He is currently the General Counsel to the the X-PRIZE Foundation, in addition Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences, and the former General Counsel and Secretary of the Professional Shipwreck Explorers Association.  He served as Chairman of the Legal Committee of The Explorers Club from 1998 to 2001.

David has lectured and published extensively throughout North America, the Caribbean, South America and Ireland.  He wrote the foreword to The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Travel, which achieved the No. 4 position on the New York Times best seller list in April 2001.
