Andy Shrimpton is the Logistical
expert for all operations run by ADMAT. Andy is also know as “Mr Fix Fit” being
able to turn is hand to solving most problems and being very
resourceful.
Andy runs his own business in the
UK, designing and installing kitchens, bathrooms and central
heating. Andy started diving in 1997 as has since dived around the world,
Bermuda, Egypt, St Kitts, Ascension Island. Andy is an active member of
his dive club, having been the equipment and training officer in the
past.
Andy is a member of the Territorial
Army and has completed 22 years, joining in 1982. He has served both in
the Royal Logistic Corps and in the Royal Engineers. Warrant Officer
Class Two, WO2 Shrimpton is currently a Clerk of Works, mechanical, with
the Royal Engineers.
In 1997 Andy help organise a joint
services (Army, Air Force) expedition to Bermuda, Exercise “Cockney
Triangle” were the team were responsible for surveying the wreck
of the “Pollockshield” a first world war ammunition ship sunk in 1915,
on behalf of the Bermuda Maritime Museum. Upon returning from this
exciting expedition a centre page article was published in Dive
magazine, which Simon Spooner read, and that’s how they met. Ever
since, Andy has worked along side Simon and ADMAT helping with logistic
and computer/software issues.
Andy in March 2003 was responsible
for diving and logistical operations in the White House Bay Maritime
Archaeological Project located in St Kitts in the Caribbean. Andy is
one of the founding members and planners of ADMAT’s St Kitts Maritime
Archaeological Project, which is the largest maritime archaeological
project in the Caribbean.
Andy also is one of ADMAT's
underwater photographers, specialising in both stills and video.
In July 2005,
Andy was Ast. Diving Officer and specialist underwater
photographer on the Button Wreck, a possible 1770's wreck
as part of ADMAT's Florida Maritime Archaeological Project. This
work was undertaken for NOAA & FKNMS.
When he finds time to relax he
enjoys flying his radio controlled helicopter and riding his 1200cc
motor cycle.
