Dr.François Gendron, A Short Biography

Dr François Gendron, is Vice President of ADMAT-FRANCE and has been working with ADMAT since 2002, conducting research on the French shipwrecks. During this time, every French wreck ADMAT has conducted archaeological surveys on, François has advised.  He is one of ADMAT's key archaeologist in France and he is assisted by Florence Prudhomme.  He and Florence Prudhomme are ADMAT's lieason with the French museums and archaeological instutions.

Dr François Gendron est le vice-Président d`ADMAT-FRANCE et travaille avec ADMAT depuis 2001. Pendant toute cette période, il a conseillé ADMAT sur chaque épave faisant l`objet dune campagne de fouilles et particulièrement les épaves françaises. Il est le principal archéologue en France assisté par Florence Prudhomme.

François major claim to fame is that he and his research team, found the identification and full story of the Perfume Bottle Wreck. From the maritime archaeological information collected from the surveys, François and his team identified the Perfume Bottle Wreck as the shipwreck “Le Casimir”. This was a major breakthrough, and he even confirmed Dr. Spooner's wrecking process for this ship, by comparing his archaeological wrecking process from the information on site, with the information he found in the archives. The information he found, proved Dr. Spooner's wrecking process 97% which was a record. In addition he conducted some research on the perfume bottles with the help of the Famous French Laboratory C2RMF (Centre de Recherches et de Restauration des Musées de France) located in “Le Louvre”.

Leur rôle, outre les recherches, consiste à créer un réseau de contacts avec les musées  et institutions de recherche français.Il aime raconter comment il a identifié l’épave aux flacons de parfum grâce aux informations issues des fouilles. Il s’agit du Casimir, un brick marchand havrais naufragé en 1829. Ce fut une découverte majeure car elle confirmait la théorie du processus de naufrage développée par le Dr Spooner pour ce navire en établissant une comparaison entre l`information in situ et les informations trouvées aux archives. Ces informations concordent à 99%. De plus, il a mené des recherches sur le verre des flacons de parfum au Laboratoire du centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France situé au Louvre.

In 1993 he was awarded a Diploma of Elaborated Studies (D.E.A.) in History and Civilizations at Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris. Promoted as a Doctor in Archaeology in 1998 at the “Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales”, he discovered in 1996 the Olmec Blue Jade Deposit in Guatemala. He graduated as a specialist in Gemmology.

Diplômé en 1993 d`un DEA en Histoire et Civilisations, il est promu Docteur en archéologie de l`Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales en 1998. En 1996 il découvrait au Guatemala un gisement de jade bleuté exploité par les Olmèques 1000 ans avant notre ère.

François during his service in the French Navy, was awarded in 1983 the, Overseas Medal with coupling pin "Lebanon"; and the National Defence Medal with coupling pin "War Boat".

Pendant son service dans la Marine nationale française, il fut décoré en 1983des Médailles d’Outre-mer agrafe « Liban »  et la Défense nationale.

In Paris, he was in charge of the Amerindian Collection at the “Musée de l’Homme” until the closing in year 2001 before joining the Prehistoric Department at the MNHN (Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle) in 2004. He is also a member of "Societe Des Explorateurs Français".

A Paris il a assisté durant plusieurs années le professeur Danièl Lévine (Paris IV Sorbonne) dans la gestion de la collection amérindienne  du “Musée de L’homme”.A   la fermeture du département Amérique en 2001, il a rejoint le département de préhistoire en 2004 ; il est également membre du Comité Directeur de la Société des Explorateurs français.

He supervised many archaeological campaigns especially in Mexico, Guatemala and French Guyane and is working in cooperation with many research Institutes and French and European Universities.

Il a dirigé plusieurs  campagnes archéologiques au Mexique, Guatemala et en Guyane Française. Il travaille en collaboration avec de nombreux instituts de recherche et universités.

He is married to Dr. Aïsha Gendron, a specialist geologist and has two children. He’s a 3 star CMAS Diver and enjoys diving on historical shipwrecks!

Marié au Dr Aïcha Gendron  géologue et diatomiste ,il a deux enfants. Enfin, il est plongeur Cmas niveau 3 et  aime l’archéologie sous-marine !
