ADMAT's St Kitts Maritime Archaeological Project 2003

Phase 1 White House Bay Wreck

Base Camp Page 8: The School Visit

The children of the Montessori Academy at Wades Gardens in St Kitts, ranging from 5 to 12 years of age, undertook a cleanup of the site on Friday 7th March. This was just before the ADMAT arrived on the island. This enabled us to erect the base camp for the project on a clean environment.

We wanted to invite the children back, not only to say thank you, but to let them know what we were doing. So a number of children, their parents and teachers arrived for a morning with us, where we explained what the project was about.  It was delightful to see how excited they were by the project. We took them through the whole archaeological process, explaining the site and showing them the artifacts found so far. The team then showed them the video link to the divers on site and told them the history behind the Battle of Frigate Bay.
